Description

The Guildhall looks like a saloon bar in a frontier town, which is fitting since that is exactly what Jo’burg was and still is. The original heavy wooden bar counter runs the length of the saloon and engraved mirrors behind the bar allow you to see who’s walking in the door, always useful in a tough town. The new owners have expanded the menu from basic pub food to a distinctly Lusophone experience.

If you’re going for lunch, get there early to get an outside table on the north side of the balcony overlooking Market Street – that side seems to be less affected by traffic noise.

Who Goes There
In the early days the bar's patrons were miners, prospectors and other adventurers drawn to the Rand in the hope of an eternal payday. These days the regulars are mostly city types having a quick lunch and a beer or day trippers in from the suburbs looking for some good food and bit of a thrill from eating downtown.
Ambience
As muted as bars get with regulars chatting over their beers. It's the real bar you always wanted.
